Get Pumped Flyers Fans, remember this?

May 11, 2008

I will always remember this play in Toronto or shall I say, series of plays. Let me take you through them. 2004 Stanley Cup playoffs, Philadelphia Flyers vs Toronto Maple Leafs, Game Six in overtime. Darcy Tucker completely decks Sami Kapanen knocking him silly. Sami, being a hockey player, never gave up. (In any other sport, the player remains down until trainers help him off. This doesn’t happen in hockey. These are the toughest athletes in all of sports). His mission, get off the ice so another skater can even things up. After multiple attempts he finally gets off the ice. Let’s watch this first play:

At the end of the play you see Jeremy Roenick’s game winner, but do you remember the end-to-end action that set-up this goal which sent the Flyers to the Eastern Conference Finals? And also, if Sami doesn’t get off the ice, this goal never happens. After Kapanen was pulled back to the bench by his teammates the play continued with no stoppages. With this goal the best phrase in sports was said, “MORE PLAYOFF HOCKEY!” Let’s watch JR take it home:
