What happened to Roy Williams?

May 27, 2008

roywilliamsdallas.jpgThe Cowboys safety that is, not the WR in Detroit that doesn’t tip pizza boys. Our friend Matt Mosley (he knows who we are) writes a brilliant article on ESPN.com about where the trouble started with Williams and how he went from Pro Bowler to making-it-on-a-name Pro Bowler to being a complete liability in pass coverage to being openly discussed a trade fodder.

And thanks to our friend Mike Florio (he knows us, but Mosley is much nicer to us) at profootballtalk.com for publishing excerpts of an interview between Cowboys CB Terrence Newman and Fox 4 in Dallas.

“He’s the same guy, I think, he just sometimes gets kind of a deer in the headlights reaction, some plays,” Newman says of Williams. “He had a bad season last year, as far as coverage.”

Not a ringing endorsement. But consider this, he goes on to say this about new teammate-that-has-to-stay-away-from-the-team-and-league-as-a-whole Pacman Jones:

“The guy just seems cool as heck.”

If you think inciting shootings at nightclubs and biting cops is cool, then we would say, “Hell yeah!”
