Apparently, Jimm Rollins was benched today when he didn’t run out a pop up that Reds shortstop Paul Janish (who the hell is Paul Janish?) dropped. Jimmy Rollins only made it to first, but if he ran it out, he would have been on second. If this is true, good move by Charlie Manual to bench him. The Phillies can’t have anyone playing lazy baseball. It’s lazy baseball that gets you swept out of the playoffs after winning the National League East?
Interestingly enough, if David “Big Sloppy” Ortiz ran as fast as he could on that same play, he would have only gotten to first, too. Jimmy is fast, in-shape, and athletic. Big Sloppy is big and sloppy. Maybe Big Sloppy should get benched for being out-of-shape?
UPDATE: It was confirmed that Jimmy was benched for being a lazy baseball player. Rotoworld reported that Jimmy said, “He’s the manager and that’s what he had to do. He has two rules: Be on time and hustle. I broke one today. It’s my fault. I can’t be mad at him.” Charlie Manuel didn’t comment after the game, but it seems likely that Rollins will be back in there on Friday.

That’s a classy response from a true professional. Rollins is an MVP and a leader; his accountability in this situation speaks volumes of his character.
And kudos to Charlie for setting this precedent with one of his best players. He’s made the proper expectations of ALL Philadelphia Phillies crystal clear on this club– You’re either hustling all the time, or your cheering from the pine.
The Mets need Charlie to come and slap Reyes around. Then again, he needs someone to tell him when to stop running too. Shock collar perhaps?
Shock collar… I like it! I bet that could work on Micah and Perry! We can shock them everytime there is a Linsey Lohan reference? Nevermind, I kind of miss the Linsey Lohan references…
