What college conferences produce the most NFL starters?

July 7, 2008

ryne.jpgHoumatoday.com did a great article on Sunday informing the reader on what college conferences are producing the NFL with the most starters. Mike Detillier does a great job on breaking it down by positions and then overall.

PHOTO CAPTION: Carolina Panther Ryne Robinson is not projected to be a starter this year.

Here are the overall results based on projected starters for the 2008 season:

SEC 137
ACC 121
Big Ten 105
Big Twelve 72
Pac-Ten 70
Big East 33
Mountain West 22
WAC 21
Mid-American 19
The Independents 13
Sun Belt 12

There are 57 projected starters from small-college ranks. Remember, ‘projected starters.’ I understand if Matt Cassel emerges as the starter for the New England Patriots before the season starts we need to add a tally to the Pac-10 and subtract a tally from the Big Ten.
