Ryan Howard extends NL RBI lead
July 10, 2008
The guy leading the National League in RBI’s is hitting .231. No, seriously. Phillies 1B Ryan Howard, whose batting average and fielding prowess have been as bad as his run production has been good, smacked two more RBI’s last night in a 4-2 win over the Cardinals. He’s got 80 for the season to go with an MLB-leading (tied with Chase “Hero” Utley) 25 HR’s.
OTR isn’t going to bitch and moan like these fantasy geeks about his average or strikeouts. It doesn’t matter whether you strike out, fly out, or ground out. You made an out. Who cares? Striking out is better than hitting into double plays. So…..shut up.

Most RBI’s before the All-Star break…EVAH!!! Who owned the record before Howard? Greg Luzinski!!
I hope I spelled Luzinski correct.
Make sure you mean, Phillies, cause there’s been plenty others who had more at the all-star break.
Did I spell ’suck it’ correct?
“OTR isn’t going to bitch and moan like these fantasy geeks about his average or strikeouts”???
First of all, his horrendous batting average is BECAUSE of his strike outs. The more balls you put into play, the more hits you are going to get. That is simple.
“It doesn’t matter whether you strike out, fly out, or ground out. You made an out. Who cares? “????
A strike out eliminates the possibility of a hit. I know that sounds retardedly elementary, but the difference between a ground ball out and a single can be miniscule. If you turn 50 of Howard’s strike outs into ground balls, a certain percentage would have resulted in hits or reaching base on a fielding error.
You also don’t advance runners when you strike out, nor do you force the fielders to make plays.
Don’t get me wrong, I like what Ryan Howard brings to the Phillies, but striking out less would have a possitive effect on the team.
A strikeout with 2 outs means nothing more than a ground out would. Yes, putting the ball in play increases the chance of a hit/error, but what about double plays? I’ll take K’s over double plays.
Ryan Howard = production, end of story.
