Mets starter Johan Santana was brilliant all game. After the Phillies knocked a few two-out hits in the first inning to score a run, they couldn’t do anything. Shane Victorino scored a harmless solo HR in the seventh to bring the game to 5-2. With no Billy Wagner, the Mets would have to utilize a closer-by-committee. But still, with a three-run lead and the second half of the Phil’s lineup coming up, they should be fine, right?
Nope. The Phillies destroyed the Mets bullpen and scored six runs in the top of the ninth. Brad Lidge then stepped in and let Shea Stadium know what he thought of the Mets’ lineup. 8-6 Philllies win.
Photo Caption: For a Rule 5 guy that the Dodgers basically refused to take back from the Phils, Victorino is awfully productive.
That said, the Phillies have done this before against the Mets. Great win for the first game of the series, followed by consecutive losses to end the series.

BOOOOOOOOOORRRREEEE-IINNNNNNNNGGGGGGG
Victorino is our spark plug.
