Philadelphia Phillies fans are really really excited right now as their team is beating down on the worst team in all of baseball. The Phillies do a good job at beating bad teams but still suck at collecting wins against baseball’s best. Aren’t baseball’s best usually in the playoffs? How many playoff wins do the Phillies have in the last 15 years? Oh, they have none? But, Blanton will get them at least one this year, right? I don’t know about that.
The Phillies currently sit in first place at 58-49. Let me break that record down for you.
The Phillies are 21-31 against teams that are .500 or better. In Lehman’s terms, “they suck against baseball’s best.” The Phillies are 4-9 against the Mets and 4-5 against the Marlins. And 3-9 against winning teams in the American League.
The Phillies are 37-18 against horrible teams. This will work well for the Phillies if they can draw Colorado, Pittsburgh, or the Nationals in the first round of the playoffs (if the Mets hand deliver another division title).
Philadelphia Phillies fans are blind to reality. I used to be one, but jumped ship many years ago because I didn’t want to root for a pathetic franchise that doesn’t care about their fans or winning.
Phillies fans ignore the fact they just got beat by the Mets five-out-of-seven games and jump for joy after winning two games against the Nationals.
Let’s see how the Phillies do in these next 14 games when 10 of those are against teams with a winning record.
And let’s see where the Mets are in the standings after their 24 game stretch with 21 of those coming against the National League’s worst.
