Nine-year old flamethrower banned

Aug. 27, 2008

I’m sure you’ve seen this by now, but we had to post. Jericho Scott, a nine-year old pitcher who throws 40-mph gas (that’s heat when you are nine), is suing his Connecticut little league because they banned him from pitching.

“He is a very skilled player, a very hard thrower,” Peter Noble, attorney for the co-ed league, said. “There are a lot of beginners. This is not a high-powered league. This is a developmental league whose main purpose is to promoted the sport.”

Scott’s team is 8-0 and murdering the rest of the league. Five of those wins have come on no-no’s from the fireballer.

After an August 13th thrashing, league officials told his coach to put someone else in. So, he put Scott at 2B for a game and then he returned to the mound a few days later. The team forfeited as opposed to facing his pitching.

Now, the whole team is joining in the lawsuit because the league wants to disband them. This is a great lesson for children: If you are up against someone in life that is much better than you are, just quit.

Whole bunch of great life-lessons to be learned here! *weeps for society*

I’m appalled by this league and the coach that forfeited the game instead of facing the kid. Keep doing what you’re doing Jericho…someday you’ll be making millions of dollars while the cry babies are home watching you on TV.

Jericho is actually 28 and Cuban.

People who think this kid should pitch in this league haven’t thought it through and are reacting to headlines. Its a developmental league with beginners that was started by a group of parents. The kid is already a member of a local all star team. When I played little league we moved up a division when we were better. That is what competition is all about. This kid came onto this team mid season as a ringer from a higher division. He shouldn’t be able to play. I agree that as a society we are turning our kids into pussys, but look to this kids parents who keep him from playing in better leagues so he can dominate beginners. Wheres the challenge and life lesson there? Chad, are you serious? If he was going to be on TV he would be playing in the higher division of little league, whose age range is from 9-13, where he would actually be a relatively weak pitcher.

My point was that the kid throws 40mph at age 9. Imagine what he’ll be throwing in H.S. Even if he isn’t that great of a pitcher with the older kids, some scout will sign him just so they can try to mold him into a great pitcher someday. With enough gas he could be a hell of a closer.

If you meant that Chad, how come you didn’t say anything close to that in your first comment?

Matt is correct about this one. Kid should be moved up. It’s done all the time. Again, people overreacting without knowing the whole story. Typical Americans.
