Thanks to loyal reader Jeff Philips (we think he’s loyal. We’ll have to find out if he’s been trashing us behind our back) for tipping us off on this one. A new USFL? Really?
We have an email into a person or two that would know whether this is legit or not, but [...]

Yankees closer Mariano Rivera is going to get shoulder surgery to remove some calcification on his AC joint.
If convicted, Rivera will face the death penalty.

This is the kind of game the Phillies lose. Ace Cole Hamels is on the mound pitching for the Phightin’s while facing Yovani Gallardo, a pitcher who was hurt most of the year. Gallardo has 21 Major-League starts.
No problem, right? Phils win easy!
Not so much. This is exactly the [...]

Just so everyone knows, I’m most likely flying solo for most of the week. Perry is swamped this week as he is under heavy interrogation regarding the collapse of Wall St.
Apparently, he had a lot to do with it. In 2006 alone, he put 32 families that averaged $21,400 in annual [...]

I noticed JD Roth hosting that new game show about how well you know your family. I won’t lend credence to it by mentioning the name (also because I don’t remember it and don’t feel like looking it up). But it made me think of “Fun House.” Anyone remember “Fun House?” [...]

Phillies closer Brad Lidge was named the National League’s Comeback Player of the Year.
Lidge was 41-for-41 in save opportunities this year.

David Murphy of the Philly Daily News said that Pat Burrell left batting practice today with lower back soreness.
Murphy says he has no idea how serious it is and the only official word from the Phillies is that he’ll be re-evaluated tomorrow.
Awesome.
Burrell’s status as God is in doubt for Game 1 tomorrow against [...]

I mentioned this before, but I thought I’d repeat. Any OTR readers on Twitter? You can follow me on Twitter @FMGMcNabb. I’ll try to keep sports posts going on there. Would that be something people would be into? I would have to think there are a bunch of other sports [...]

Cedric Benson has found a home! With DeDe Dorsey on IR, the Bengals have announced the signing of Cedric Benson.
The Bengals were saddened when they were informed after the signing that his two alcohol-related offenses had been dropped. OTR thinks they’ll still keep him because he could always do it again.

We’ve all been waiting for this for quite some time now. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Al Davis has fired head coach Lane Kiffin and told him that he won’t be getting paid the remainder of the $3.5 million he’s owed.
It’s believed that Davis has been waiting to pile up enough evidence of [...]

Here are my Eagles/Bears thoughts from GCobb.com. Sorry it took so long to post:
I’m not quite sure what more the Eagles’ defense could have done for the offense in the second half. This game was frustrating on a number of levels, so let’s take a look at what happened.
What I liked…

The Phillies have announced that Cole Hamels will start Game 1 (shocker) against the Brewers. For Game 2, they are sending Brett Myers out to the mound with Jamie Moyer set for Game 3.
Myers is the real wild card in the Phillies’ playoff chances. Which Myers will show up? The guy who [...]

Giants RB Danny Ware decided to spend his bye week down in Georgia. Seemed like a nice idea at the time, right? That is until was arrested for essentially being a drunk pedestrian and seeming to ignore the fact that he was wondering in the road. He blew a 0.152 and was [...]

Shocker. The Rams have given the ax to Scott Linehan and named Jim Haslett the interim coach. The Rams decided that they were sick of losing, apparently.
We’re sure this will get the Rams turned around despite the fact that they cannot block, tackle, pass, run, kick or cover.

It is being reported to OTR that Chicago has been completely taken over by Philadelphia Eagles fans. They have been flocking to the city since Friday and it hasn’t stopped. E-A-G-L-E-S chants can be heard in almost every single Chicago bar, pub, grille, club, restaurant, and tavern.

Adam Schefter of NFL Networks has confirmed with two officials close to the situation that Brett Favre will start today against the Arizona Cardinals despite being listed as questionable on the injury report.

At the beginning of the 2008 MLB season our readers made some predictions. They wagered valuable Perry Dollars on what they thought was going to happen. Some of their predictions are still to be determined, but let’s take a look back at all the bets.

Denver Broncos (-9.5) at Kansas Chiefs
The Chiefs are tough at home, so….just kidding! They blow on any field! They just might be the worst team in football right now. The Broncos defense is about as bad as their offense is good, but the Chiefs won’t be able to take advantage of it. [...]

The St. Louis Rams appear headed for the Super Bowl. They have narrowly lost their first three games by an average of almost 30 points and it’s always a good thing when you bench your starting QB.
Now, starting RB Steven Jackson has gone on his radio show and publicly called Bulger’s benching the “wrong [...]

Cleveland Browns (+3.5) over Cincinnati Bengals
Wow, things are going to get real ugly after this game no matter what happens. Both teams are 0-3. Cleveland was everyone’s ‘I think they might win the AFC North’ team. Cincinnati is everyone’s ‘I think Chad Johnson…I mean Chad Ocho Cinco might go completely crazy if [...]

OTR couldn’t make this up. Since we got such a great response yesterday with our post about Jeff Pearlman’s new book Boys Will Be Boys, we thought we’d add an even better excerpt. This time, it seems that Charles Haley liked to play with it in front of teammates and coaches. But apparently, [...]

So Blast has a question for today and we thought we’d post it here. We all know the government proposed a $700 billion buyout for Wall St., but what would you do with $700 billion in the sports world? Here’s what I think some of our readers would do with it:

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirms an AP report that Willie Parker is likely to miss weeks 4 and 5. Yikes. This makes us think that the knee could be bad enough to cause him to miss even more time than that.

Roy Williams has about had it with Detroit, and we don’t know that we can blame him.

Bills head coach Dick Jauron has disclosed that WR/KR Roscoe Parrish will be out 4-6 weeks due to surgery on his thumb. For people that were high on the Bills defense this year for fantasy football (me), this sucks. He was a keg of dynamite on the returns teams.
