Jacksonville’s RBs dropping fantasy value?

Sept. 10, 2008

How productive can a running game be with 60% of your starting offensive line not playing?  Well, usually it’s not a good thing and the Jacksonville Jaguars will soon find out.

Today, starting guard Mo Williams was placed on the injured reserve (IR) where he will join fellow staring guard Vince Manuwai who was placed on IR earlier this week.  With starting center Brad Meester still out for several weeks the Jags will have to rely on Philadelphia native Dennis Norman (center), second-year guard Uche Nwaneri, and nine-year veteran Tutan Reyes to carry the load.

The Jaguars were unsuccessful in getting their ground attack going against Tennessee in their 17-10 loss on Sunday.  Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew only combined for 31 of the 33 total rushing yards, hardly what the great combo backfield is used to.  With two more starting lineman being placed on IR this week, it’s possible their struggles will continue.

The Jags have their home-opener this Sunday against the Buffalo Bills and they will be welcoming back their former defensive tackle Marcus Stroud who will be looking to take advantage of facing off against a depleted offensive line.  Marcus had seven tackles and two sacks for the Bills last weekend.

Side note:  If Buffalo can get past Jacksonville this week, they could potentially start the season 5-0 with their next three games against the Raiders, Rams, and Cardinals.
