Micah’s Week 4 picks

Sept. 26, 2008

Denver Broncos (-9.5) at Kansas Chiefs

The Chiefs are tough at home, so….just kidding! They blow on any field! They just might be the worst team in football right now. The Broncos defense is about as bad as their offense is good, but the Chiefs won’t be able to take advantage of it. They better pray that they can give the Broncos a healthy dose of Larry Johnson and keep the ball out of Jay Cutler’s hands. Won’t happen though, I’m taking the Broncos. By the way, you have to wonder about the personnel and scouting departments in Tennessee and Arizona for taking VY and Matt Leinart respectively over Cutler. Oops. Imagine how good the Titans would be right now. The pick: Broncos.

Houston Texans (+7) at Jacksonville Jaguars

I don’t like the Texans very much right now and it’s not hard to see why. They aren’t very good and people are beginning to wonder if Matt Schaub is starting to get a little gun shy. That’s what happens when you play quarterback in Houston for a prolonged period of time. The Jaguars seem to be getting their stuff together now and will be too much for the Texans. The pick: Jaguars.

Arizona Cardinals (+1) at NY Jets

It’s games like this that make me drive home to see my family in South Jersey. This is a blow-my-brains-out game in all likelihood. If you don’t watch the Jets regularly, you should know that they are boring. Even with Favre. Young CB’s Dwight Lowery (who I really like) and Darrelle Revis are going to have their hands full with Larry Fitz and Anquan Boldin. What people are forgetting in this game though is the high-emotion that Jets LB Calvin Pace will be playing with as he faces his old team. He’s talked openly about wanting to break Kurt Warner’s legs (no he hasn’t) and to rupture Fitzgerald’s spleen (he didn’t say that either). I’m just trying to add a story line. The Jets get the win and Pace erupts in tears as he lays on the fifty-yard line curled up in the fetal position as the clock shows double zeros. Emotional, emotional win. The pick: Jets.

San Francisco 49ers (+5) at New Orleans Saints

I hate to pick San Francisco here, but they are better than they used to be with JT O’Sullivan running the show. You never know what you are going to get with the Saints and they are now without Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey. Brees doesn’t have the weapons he had at the start of the season. Reggie Bush has been much better, but is he enough? The think the Niners can cover this. The pick: Niners.

Atlanta Falcons (+6.5) at Carolina Panthers

That’s a lot of points. Can the Panthers win by a TD? I don’t know what to expect from the Panthers week to week, but I know that the Falcons are a lot better than people thought. That’s a lot of points to bet against. The pick: Falcons.

Minnesota Vikings (+3) at Tennessee Titans

Wow, these are hard. The Titans are a physical team that loves to run the football and play tough defense. That sentence also describes the Vikings. It’s Chris Johnson and Lendale White against the Williams brothers of Minnesota. I love the Williams brothers. But, I also love All Day. And I love Albert Haynesworth. I have some issues here. I thought maybe I’d just go with the better QB, but both Kerry Collins and Gus Frerotte started the season as #2’s. Where is Tarvaris Jackson when you need him to screw up a close game? The pick: Titans.

Green Bay Packers (+1) at Tampa Bay Bucs

I don’t see the Bucs beating Green Bay unless I have wildly missed on my assessment of the Packers. The Packers are sans Al Harris, but that’s ok, I don’t like Tampa’s WR’s. Plus, they have Brian Griese throwing and he is whatever. ‘But he threw for 400+ yards last week!?’ So what, he also threw three picks. He has been up and down his whole career. Sometimes they say he’s cooked, other times they heap praise upon him. Green Bay is too good in this game. The pick: Packers.

I MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE USED THE ACTUAL LINES FROM CAESAR’S IN LAS VEGAS.

Holy shit! These might be the worst picks I have ever seen. Sure, hindsight is 20/20, but even the analysis was off the mark. I hope you didnt bet these.
