Phils set starting rotation

Sept. 29, 2008

The Phillies have announced that Cole Hamels will start Game 1 (shocker) against the Brewers. For Game 2, they are sending Brett Myers out to the mound with Jamie Moyer set for Game 3.

Myers is the real wild card in the Phillies’ playoff chances. Which Myers will show up? The guy who lit up everyone he faced after his Minor League mental rehab assignment? Or the guy that has stunk up the joint in his last two starts (or the guy that stunk before getting a mental rehab assignment?)?

If Myers has confidence in his fastball and isn’t afraid to throw it, the Phils will be very tough for Milwaukee. If Myers melts down and gives up five runs in 2 1/3, then the Phillies will have to pray that JA Happ can handle pressure.

As for Game 4, if the Phils are up 2-1, you probably throw Blanton out there. If they are down, then you might have to decide whether or not Hamels goes back out.
