Thanks to loyal reader Jeff Philips (we think he’s loyal. We’ll have to find out if he’s been trashing us behind our back) for tipping us off on this one. A new USFL? Really?
We have an email into a person or two that would know whether this is legit or not, but it seems (based on this site) that there is a new USFL in the works. The rules?
-Fans can buy stock in USFL teams
-No pre-season games (just a full 16 games!)
-No touchbacks on kickoffs. If the ball goes out of the end zone, it gets spotted at the 15-yard line.
-Field goals 51-yards or more are worth four points.
-A PAT from 10 yards out is worth 3 points.
-No kneel downs (ouch!)
-Safeties will be worth four points (love this rule! They are hard to get)
-Overtime rules are the same as NCAA.
If this is a spring league, we’ll watch. I miss the USFL, as long as they can get some decent players. We’ll see.

i hope this league works out,i believe that there is enough talent for another professional league,,,i hope that most of teams will be placed in cities that do not already have existing nfl franchises,or other professional teams,,i think cities without a professional franchises would more supportive of their teams,,ex:birmingham, columbus, ohio, san antonio,or austin, texas, are just a few,,,only my opinion, and i also hope this league does not price it self out of existance,as the old u.s.f.l.,did by trying to compete with the n.f.l.,for high priced players, let the league grow and build support,,much as the old a.f.l. did in the early sixties,,anyway im excited about this and look foward to opening kickoff
Check out my interview with Michael Dwyer, the founder and CEO of the NEW USFL. Lots of info from Michael. Enjoy!
