GCobb: Clock is ticking on Akers

Our pal Garry Cobb says that the clock should be ticking on Eagles kicker David Akers, and while we hate to admit it, we agree.
His best point was that Eagles special teams coach Rory Seagrest says that he’s been working with him on his technique. Are you serious? This guy doesn’t know anything about special teams, let alone working with a veteran kicker like Akers on his technique. The fact that these things go on in the Eagles’ organization is why they are 2-3.
I said before the season that Akers would have to step it up this year and he hasn’t. He’s missed nine straight kicks beyond 45 yards and that is unacceptable.
Yet another reason the Eagles are finished for 2008.
It’s so true. It pains me to say it but it is. Akers is just a microcosm of the problems with this football team, but then again this is going for it. The other thing that gets me and this is a little off topic but the fact that this is most likely Dawkins last year and e will never get a super bowl ring. A player of his caliber deserves to get a ring and the fact that this organization failed to get him one, sickens me.
