St. Louis Rams (+13.5) at Washington Redskins

Perry asked me to give a shout out to the Rams organization for firing head coach Scott Linehan and putting a guy in charge who is responsible for giving up 60 points per game. The Redskins have a great ball-control offense and this will be a problem for the Rams because they stink. 13.5 points is a lot to spot one team out of the gate, but the Rams are so putrid that they need more than that. The pick: Redskins.

Jacksonville Jaguars (+3.5) at Denver Broncos

I just don’t know what to make of either team right now. The Broncos look like world beaters one week, and then like a mule’s rear end the next. What we do know is that the Broncos have no defense. But it seems to be ok because their offense is so great. The Broncos will also be charged up knowing that Travis Henry has been released from jail and will be home (by court order) cheering his ex-teammates on. The big question, as I see it, is will Eddie Royal play. I say he’s the difference maker. If he plays, the Broncos win. If not, they lose. He won’t play. The pick: Jaguars.

Philadelphia Eagles (-5) at San Francisco 49ers

Who made the Eagles minus anything? This team is so poorly coached right now (and I do believe there has been a regression) that I don’t know if they could beat the New York Mets in a slow-pitch softball game. I don’t even know what that means, but it was meant as an insult to both the Mets and Eagles. The Eagles get DE Victor Abiamiri back, but he won’t play much. If he was going to play a lot, I would have said something insightful like “he’ll slow down Frank Gore because he’s their biggest DE.” Brian Westbrook might play, but he shouldn’t. He’s better off resting through the bye week. That means the Eagles offense will be even less potent. Reggie Brown might not play either, which will force Andy Reid to do the right thing and get DeSean Jackson the ball more. J.T. O’Sullivan has played fairly well for the Niners, but he hasn’t seen J.J. blitzes before. Still, the Niners cover. The pick: 49ers.

Dallas Cowboys (-5) at Arizona Cardinals

The Cowboys haven’t been great lately, but the liberal media would like you to believe that they are a second-tier team. They aren’t. They are still a great team right now, even if they aren’t playing their best. The liberal media would also have you believe that the Cardinals are a good team. I don’t believe they are. They score a lot, but that doesn’t make them good. And as for any type of benefit to a home field advantage, well…in Arizona there isn’t one. And that stadium is named after a university that doesn’t even exist. Whatever. The pick: Cowboys.

Green Bay Packers (+2) at Seattle Seahawks

Seattle is favored to win something?! Can’t do it. The Packers aren’t playing terrible well right now, but I don’t care. The Seahawks just got lambasted 44-6 by the Giants. Ok, so you say the Giants are good, and they are. 44-6?? Pathetic. And on another note, Deion Branch hurt himself again. What an absolute waste of first-round picks. The pick: Packers.

New England Patriots (+5) at San Diego Chargers

Would anyone bet anything on either one of these teams right now? Can someone please explain to me what is going on in San Diego? And now, no Chris Chambers? The Patriots are just a shell (if that) of their former selves. As I’ve said a million times, the defense is old and now rookie first-rounder Jerrod Mayo is getting his playing time reduced. Not good. Also, Lawrence Maroney runs like a woman in her late 50’s and is quickly losing the confidence of the coaching staff. Can anyone believe this is a rematch of last year’s AFC Title game? I’ll take the team getting the points. The pick: Patriots.

New York Giants (-8) at Cleveland Browns

I’ve heard chatter that this is a trap game and that the Browns will jump up and bite the G-men. Uhhh…yah. Don’t see that happening. The Browns are garbage and could bench their QB at any time now. When Derek Anderson actually does throw a decent ball, Braylon Edwards just drops it anyway. Last year was an aberration, and these are the same old Browns unless Brady Quinn is somehow good. Corey Williams popping off at the mouth about the Giants physicality wasn’t too bright either. The pick: Giants.

Were those ‘liberal media’ comments for my benefit Micah? I hope they were because they were funny?
