Giants sign Edgar Renteria

WFAN in NY is reporting that the Giants have signed shortstop Edgar Renteria.
This must mean that Brandon Jacobs is hurt worse than they are leading on and that they need depth at running back.
It’s a two-year, $18 million deal, which is a lot for a backup running back.
He didn’t sign with the Giants. This rumor has been shot down by Renteria’s agent.
Renteria isn’t a free agent yet, by the way. He first must be refused arbitration by the Tigers, which will not happen until next month. When next month, I don’t know. What I do know is that anyone who signed him now would have to give up compensation picks, so obviously everyone will wait a week or two and go after him for free.
