I’m usually a fan of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Aikman, in particular, usually does an excellent job.
Yesterday, that was not the case.
Aikman couldn’t have ripped Donovan McNabb more in the first half. Even throws that were completed drew two-minute soliloquys on what great things would have happened if he put the ball in a different place. Then he would be condescending and explain how important it is to make big plays in games like these. Thanks, Troy.
When McNabb threw a beautiful rainbow to Greg Lewis and Lewis flat out dropped it, that was McNabb’s fault too, according to Troy. He said Lewis was looking to the inside and McNabb made a mistake and put it on his outside shoulder. Well if he put it on his inside shoulder, the defender could have made a play on the ball. Greg Lewis dropped it. Where was the criticism of him? We always hear how great Peyton Manning is, but he isn’t throwing to Greg Lewis. He has Reggie Wayne.
And when Donovan brought the Eagles back with three consecutive TD drives to give the Eagles the lead? Aikman hardly showered him with compliments. 375 yards and 3 TD passes must be a crappy day according to Troy.
Neither Aikman nor Buck spent any time putting the blame in that first half where it clearly lied: the defense. They couldn’t get to Warner and were carved up on the ground and the air. But that was probably Donovan’s fault too.

Doesn’t it also bother you how the refs missed those two pass interference calls. There was the one in the first half, that I believe kept us out of field goal range. That might have been the drive where Akers missed the FG (or it was a drive that resulted in a FG that could have gotten us closer for a TD). Either way, that’s some points that the refs cost us by a blown call.
And then, how could you not call that pass interference on the 4th and 10 at the end of the game? The defender tripped Curtis–it was so obvious in the replays.
Look, I understand that refs make mistakes, but refs usually don’t hold back calling pass interference. I was always under the impression that they just liked forgetting delay of game’s and stuff like that.
Valid points, Steve. But if you put up 25 points with this defense, you should win. Bottom line.
I think the 4th and 10 was a good no call. Incidental contact is what it looked like to me the two times I saw it.
I liked how Aikman was making up words to describe McNabb’s throws. I also liked him calling one throw “horrid”. Dude needs to get a grip. I can see his point with making comments on the one crossing pass to Jackson (I think but could easily be wrong) where he threw it behind the receiver.
Micah, I don’t think you can give McNabb credit for the bomb to Jackson. That ball was tipped by the defender and it was extremely lucky that Jackson came up with it.
Overall, good game to watch if you are not an Iggles fan.
Yeah good game. Sure there were some drops, but DMAC had a poor first half. That was a killer. Outcoached and outplayed. And Warner and zona staff new blitz was coming…played it to perfection. fun to watch Warner nail those passes. Agreed on lucky catch/throw to Jackson. I think DMAC threw that pass behind Curtis, not Jackson. But micah would know for sure.
