Pierce talks Plax

Jan. 27

plaxicoburress3I wrote this up for GCobb.com, but wanted to put it here too.

Antonio Pierce took some time out of his Super Bowl media schedule to talk with my buddy Matt Mosley of ESPN.com.

As you can guess, the subject of Plaxico Burress came up. Will he be back with the Giants?

“I think it comes down to how he goes about his business,” said Pierce. “He holds the decision. If he does everything he needs to do, I don’t think he’s played his last game as a Giant. Mentally and demeanor-wise, if they thought he was so bad, they would’ve never signed him to that long-term contract. He’s made some bad choices and that was a very bad incident. But once you get in trouble like that, everything else you’ve done gets magnified 100 percent. It’s like the stuff [Michael] Strahan had to go through with his wife.

“I know that Plaxico loves football. It’s all he knows. Sometimes when it looks like you might lose that opportunity, it can have a powerful effect on a person.”

That’s all well and good, Antonio. But, I think you are overlooking one small fact: HE WILL PROBABLY BE IN JAIL.

How can we sit here and say it’s his decision? Forget about the football and locker room stuff for a minute. There’s a good chance he’ll be behind bars!

It’s simply not his decision, it’s the decision of 12 of his peers. And based on the clear evidence, New York’s mandatory laws, and mayor Bloomberg’s public statement that he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, I think it’s more likely that Burress is making license plates in 2009 and not catching ducks from Eli Manning.
