Darryl Strawberry’s book coming out

Feb. 11, 2009

darrylstrawberryAs being reported by the New York Post:

Coming this April to a bookstore near you, Straw:  Finding My Way, a story written by Darryl Strawberry about drugs, alcohol, women, and the New York Mets in the mid-1980’s; co-starring Keith Hernandez, Dwight Gooden, Lee Mazzilli, Ron Darling, Lenny Dykstra, Ray Knight and Mookie Wilson.

PHOTO CAPTION: The 1986 New York Mets championship team wore the orange, V-neck jerseys when on the road, as seen here worn by Darryl Strawberry.

Here’s a few excerpts:

“We were the boys of summer. The drunk, speed-freak, sneaking-a-smoke boys of summer,” Strawberry writes. “(An) infamous rolling frat party . . . drinking, drugs, fights, gambling, groupies…”

Strawberry says beer “was the foundation of our alcoholic lifestyle. We hauled around more Bud than the Clydesdales. The beer was just to get the party started and maybe take the edge off the speed and coke.”

The team’s mantra on the road, he writes, was to “tear up your best bars and nightclubs and take your finest women . . . The only hard part for us was choosing which hottie to take back to your hotel room. Lots of times you . . . picked two or three.”

With all kidding aside, this will probably be one of the best books ever and I will be sure to read it.

The book is very inspirational. It is Darryl telling young fans and old NOT to follow in his footsteps and how he crawled his way out of Hell. He is not glamorizing what he did rather he is telling eveyrone how God helped him to find his way
