A tribute to Brian Dawkins

Feb. 27, 2009

briandawkinsIt is clearly apparent now the Philadelphia Eagles front office has no heart or understanding.  Joe Banner and Andy Reid might be geniuses in their own minds, but Philadelphia Eagles fans won’t tolerate them anymore.  Letting Brian Dawkins, the heart and soul of the Philadelphia Eagles, sign with the Denver Broncos was a slap in the face to every fan that bleeds green on Sundays.  And I’m not talking about that wussy-green color the New York Jets wear, but the midnight green number 20 dedicated himself to for 13 years in the city of Philadelphia.

There is no other professional athlete who understood what it takes to play in Philadelphia more than Brian Dawkins.  Eric Lindros had no clue.  Scott Rolen begged to be traded.  Allen Iverson, well maybe.  Dawkins knew what the fans wanted.  A winner.  He gave his everything.  He gave everything to the organization he worked for.  He gave everything to his loyal Eagles fans of Philadelphia.  Joe Banner and Andy Reid just don’t get it.

It doesn’t make any sense.  How do you not re-sign the heart and soul of your franchise when you have all the money in the world to spend?  Are you saving it for a free agent wide receiver?  I highly doubt that.

The more I think about this, the more I think Brian knew he was leaving Philadelphia after this year.  The tears after the Giants playoff game symbolized much more than just a victory.  It symbolized the final run on a team he so desperately wanted to win everything with.  If this isn’t true, how did he walk away so quickly?  How was he able to catch a plane to Denver so easily?

I guarantee everyone that reads this post (all twenty of you) will see #20 Denver Bronco jerseys throughout Lincoln Financial Field when the Denver Broncos visit the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009.  And on that day Brian Dawkins will see how much he was (and still is) appreciated during his 13-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles.

As for Andy and Joe, the both of you can suck it.  Philadelphia Eagles fans will live long past your torturous reign.

And to my Brian Dawkins’ fans, enjoy:

    Fuck the eagles

This is the worst move in their history

  2. Matthew Carmody says:

This is bullshit. I can’t believe this is happening. Fucking cheap bastards. What are they doing to us? How can they let Dawk go? He represents everything that we want in all players of all sports but so seldom get. This is worse than when we lost Reggie to free agency by far. I can’t wait until Reid and Banner are gone and for the day that Jeff Lurie sells the team so we can get an owner who wants to win more than make money. I predict some serious backlash for this.

  3. CS says:

You know the best part? The Broncos just cut Marlon McCree…which is significant because that means Denver jersey #20 is now ready and waiting for Dawkins!

Sorry Eagles fans. I can’t imagine if I had to watch Elway suit up in an Eagles jersey because the Broncos wouldn’t resign him.

  4. Dave says:

I’m sorry but it’s time us Eagles fans take matters into our own hands. We as fans need to protest this Organization and refuse to give them another cent of our hard earned money. Hit em where it hurts, their wallet. This is not a joke…I’m DEAD serious.

  5. Fooks says:

this definitely sucks, but you can’t be surprised with the business side of sports. did you ever think favre would leave green bay? or pat burrell would leave the phils? or dana barrros would leave the sixers?

if the denver deal is officially completed (still am reading conflicting reports), then every philly fan should be required to wear the #20 jersey when the broncs come to philly.

    bdawk, you will be missed!

  6. Zach says:

This is complete BULLSHIT!! The Eagles are the cheapest fucking bastards i have ever seen. The whole managment is SHIT! They let the heart and soul of not only the defence, of not only the team, of not only the city, but every single eagles fan in the world go, who gets pumped when dawk gives that speech before the game. im wearing my dawkins jersey today to remember his 13 hard fought years. thanks reid, lurie, and banner…u really fucked us this time.

  7. Ben says:

i am so fucking pissed off! I could understand this move if we needed cap space, but we have tons of money. we all know that the eagles won’t spend it, which makes it that much more of a slap in the face.

  8. tyler says:

This is not a slap in the face, its a crowbar across the face. This is the worst thing that has happened to Philly sports EVER!!! Way to go Joe Banner, way to screw up our team, NOT YOUR TEAM, and tear its heart out and just give it to the Broncos. Way to show not just Philadelphia your true colors, but the entire world. I have no idea how you were given this terrible reign, but I will not pay you a single cent till you give someone more appreciative the rank of owner of Philadelphias pride. And a message to everyone, I will root for Dawkins no matter what team he is on. If that includes rooting against Joe Banners Eagles, I will find a way to swallow my pride.

  9. Fuck Banner says:

fuck joe banner he is going to burn in HELL. i lost all respect for him after he cut trotter. Dawkins bleeds GREEN…. philly will mourn

  10. Fuck Banner says:

and the cocksucker that said “fuck the eagles” is a faggot and is probably a fucking giant fan or better yet, a cowgirl fan

  11. john says:

FUCK JOE BANNER AND ANDY REID When u think of the eagles u think of BRIAN DAWKINS He earned the respect of every philadelphian and to throw it in his face after 13 years and not keep not just a leader but one of the best defencive player ever. u know FUCK my season tickets and FUCK THE EAGLES

  12. Kim Coffey says:

I for one will purchase a #20 Broncos jersey (which brought me to this site). I have been a football fan for all of my life. Having grown up in East Lansing and Columbus, I am a College fan. When I moved to Philly, my now husband, introduced me to the Eagles and the NFL. Until today, I thought I was a true Eagles fan. After spending thousands of dollars attending Eagles games, buying merchandise, standing in line to meet the teams amazing player, I know I am a B. Dawk fan. He was the heart and soul of the team and the reason I did anything to go to the games, rewatch games, listen to 610 whenever I was in the car, blah, blah. I will no longer support a team that would give up a player/leader like Dawk. To me, it is not palpable to be an Eagles fan and ride the “choke coaster” without the presence of #20. I wish him all the best and as soon as I can get one, will proudly and defiantly wear a 20 Broncos jersey. I hope Brian Dawkins will somehow know how much the fans in Philly will miss him!

  13. cowboy fans are cocksuckers says:

i am going to send a piece of burnt shit in a bag to lurie and banner they are both going to burn in hell

  14. Tim says:

I am so sick of the Eagles right now, if your not going to sign the heart and soul of this team to a contract that is bad enough but if you dont even spend a fucking dollar on anything else to at least help ease the pain that is even worse. im sick of this, they do just enough to keep us heart broken, this is it for me. PROTEST

  15. Eagles Fan In Fort Worth,Tx says:

O my word…Why would they let go the Heart of the TEAM!!!! I live in Cowboy fan area and im an Eagles FAN …but what i dont understand is WHY O WHY would They Let B.Dawk Go.. =( U will truly be missed..

  16. Brian says:

    Past: Long time Eagles fan
    Present: Denver Broncos fan

I’m serious. I’m done. The mgmt does not want to win a Super Bowl. They fucked up big time on this one. They will not even make the playoffs next year. They would not even have made the playoffs without Brian’s on-field and off-field leadership. Dawk was the leader, and they let him walk out the door. It’s over.

  17. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH says:

Is anyone surprised what brainless moves are made under this DICTATORSHIP,I mean this is the same regime that had to be strong armed by Govenor Rendell to put public water fountains in the Linc and that wanted no food what so ever brought in and they were willing to give you a prison style shakedown to enforce it.I’m just surprised that if they found any food on you they didn’t take you away and lock you up and interrogate you. They have run amuck for too long and as for winning a Super Bowl the bad,bad karma they generate comes back to haunt them in the biggest games and they will not win one. They take full advantage of the fan loyalty and it means absolutely zero to them as it truly is all about power and money to them and I know that’s an overused cliche but in this case it could not be anymore true. All the public things they do is true PROPOGANDA in true DICTATORSHIP style and we all know that and we don’t buy any of it and never will. All this team wants is YES men that will never question any of what goes on and if you do you are SILENCED and BANNISHED without a trace.I am so glad the Phillies won the World Series this past year because despite the Eagles well wishes they were steaming to see another team, especially the Phillies win a championship and get the parade of all parades ending up literally on the Eagles doorstep. The Eagles figured we don’t have to win anything because no other team will and when the Phillies won it set the bar to a level that the Eagles know they can’t reach. The only reason they let the Phillies use the Linc for the parade celebration is that if they didn’t they would have encountered the wrath of the fans that would have been 5x’s that of the one they got for letting Dawkins go.No matter what the Eagles do the Phillies did it first and you know they were fuming over that.I’m sure as they Phillies parade rolled by the MONEY CHANGERS and BEAN COUNTERS were in their cushy, extravagent offices in the Linc counting their money as usual. The Flyers, phillies and Sixers get it as organizations and the Eagles never will nor do they care if they ever do.I mean as Eagles fans we want a Super Bowl in the worst way but do we really want to see this ownersip and coach win it,I know I certainly don’t because the way they do business should never, ever be rewarded.Don’t get me wrong I’m the biggest Philly sports fan there is but the way they conduct business if that’s what we call this is beyond unacceptable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
