Sixers small forward – who actually plays other positions because Andre Iguodala can’t hit a jump shot and just play the two – Thaddeus Young will be out 2-3 weeks with an injured ankle sustained in Tuesday night’s victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
The bone isn’t broken, but MRI results show a sprain and a bone bruise. The young superstar, who will never fully blossom as a Sixer due to Andre Iguodala’s big contract and inability to play in a half-court offense, is on crutches.
“I spoke to Thad at halftime (of the Atlanta game),” coach Tony DiLeo said at practice earlier today. “He was down. He’s been playing at a high level. He’s just disappointed, and a little apprehensive.”

So it’s your assertion that Iggie has a consistent jumper? If his jumper was good enough to to play the 2, why does he have to play the three? He is not a good, consistent half court player. If you watched any Sixers games you would know that.

Iguodala plays the 1.2,3 and 4 as needed. He is a 2 years younger, much better, more valuable future version of JJ, who am a fan of.
I see your point of contention. When I say “he can’t hit a jump shot,” I mean that he doesn’t do it consistently enough to warrant being a #2. Some nights he’s on fire and others there is a lid on the rim. That’s why he is so frustrating. When he plays well he has the athleticism to be dominant.

I cannot decide whether I am an Iggie fan. At times I love him and other times he just does not justify that price tag. Overall, I don’t think he is worth that kind of money.
Actually, the problem is Willie Green can’t hit a jump shot either.
Perhaps you might look at his Stats YTD before you critique his game. Or, watch the 7 or so game winning jumpers he hit this yr, etc

Yes, Perry is correct- he is their Gold Medal Winner of Inconsistency. Still, beware of the Sixers postseason defensively, tho Hawks also have near equal athleticism. I prefer they do NOT meet ea other in Rd 1, so both can wreak havoc on respective opponents
The bigger issue in all of this is what to do when Elton Brand comes back.
Because Thad is a great Swing 3,4. Entire NBA is moving toward more athletic 4’s, is a non issue. Iguodala is a Wing like JJ, he plays all over the Court, runs Offense half the the time, and defends the best perim player. How do you think Iguodala avgs 6.6 dimes per gm? LeBron, JJ, offensively play 1,2,3 at times.
Thad and Iguodala are WINGS. Kobe is a WING, JJ WING.

If the Sixers could get a legitimate outside threat at the 2 position, I’m completely fine with Iggie at the 3, Thadd at the 4, and Dalembert/Brand/Speights at the 5. However, Thadd needs to beef up a little. Speights needs to beef up a little. And Brand needs to play basketball.
If the Sixers don’t resign Andre Miller for next season, they are absolutely screwed and the team will be a mess.
Unfortunately, the Sixers are completely salary-capped out by Brand’s and Iggie’s contract that they won’t be able to get a legitimate 2.
The Sixers will be a fun team to watch and be in the middle of the pack, but they won’t be able to win it with this group. Too many tweeners and no post-up players (which you need in the playoffs).
Perry speaks the likely truth. Cant disagree w any of Perrys view, thats even if Thad can return 80 pct.

Kobe is not a wing. He is a deadly outside shooter and the best player in the NBA. You can’t compare Iggie and Thadd to Lebron and Kobe in reference to ‘wing players.’
Moreover, the NBA is moving towards more wing/swing-man type players, but those teams never win. Look who wins? Same teams every year. Teams that have pure position players. Teams that build around superstars (Tim Duncan, Shaq, Garnett) with guys that can shoot. It’s how you spread an offense. A swingman is nothing without his shooters and post-up player.
If Kobe and Lebron win, it’s not because they are wing players that play 1, 2, 3…it’s because they are the best in the world.
P Peppers, I hear where you are coming from, but it is tough to dispute that Iggy is a poor shooter. Sure, he can get a hot hand from time to time and knock down some shots. However, that does not make him a threat from the outside. The guy shoots 30% from beyond the arc. His numbers suggest there is no need to cover him until he gets inside the arc. I am not suggesting that Iggy is a bad player, quite the contrary. I just think the Sixers essentially have too many of the same players. Iggy, Williams, Thad, Green, Miller…these are all guys that can get to the rim but struggle to knock it down from long range. Iggy is a two-guard by trade and Thad should be playing the three.
Iverson? You are a jerkass.
Perry- IMO, Bron and Kobe are each Wings- the two best Wings on the Planet- but a Wing is a player who can play either Backcourt or Frontcourt. Period. A Dude who can dish-playmake, board, and Score.
Mainly a Wing, or a Swing, is the rare player who has the above versatility, on either side of ball. Clearly, Bron and Kobe top List, w Dimes , Boards, and PPG

Whats funny is that for every 3 point shooter who shoots the 3 over 40 pct, he is as likely a defensive fart on the Court. ( Yeah, exceptions are Rashard, Ray Ray, not that either is a stopper, prolly a few others) but most 3 Point Specialists can do nothing else.
But, agree, Sixers, othet than Donyell, have the Curse. Esp in their home arena, which is odd

Nah I’m in North Jersey. Went to ATL once on business and had a great time. It’s nice down there as long as you are careful where you go. But I guess that’s anywhere.

So my knock on Iggie was more frustration than hating. He’s an amazing athlete and lots of fun to watch, but I just wish he had a better jump shot. And I extend that to the whole roster.
