With star running back Ronnie Brown placed on the IR and out for the rest of the season Miami’s wildcat may need to be put down.

Brown is the lynch pin of that system and without him i doubt it will be as productive as it has been in the past. Brown is out for the season with a foot injury and was placed on the IR earlier today.

Ricky Williams will move into Brown’s starting role for the remainder of the season though I doubt his career high 5.3 yards per carry will stand without Brown present to distract defenses.

Williams is not as good as he was in 2002, he’s in his 30’s now and though I’m sure he’s still in great shape has probably been going downhill for years. He also lacks the versatility that made Brown so great which is why we will most likely see the elimination or at least a downplaying of the wildcat offense.

Tonight is probably one of the biggest games of the season for the Patriots.

They face the 8-0 Indianapolis Colts. If they win they will prove that Tom Brady is back and that they can compete in the top of the league once again. I think the Patriots can hand the Colts their first loss of the season despite allowing more points per game on defense. The patriots have allowed 14.4 points while th colts have allowed just 13.5.

The Patriots defense has allowed 39.0 third down conversions per game to the colts 44.1. Third down conversions can be utterly demoralizing to a defense. On top of that the Colts also allow more total yards per game, 303 to the pats 291.

One of the Colts best Defensive players, Bob Sanders, is out for this game. This could make it very easy for Wes Welker to pick them apart on the sub-10-yard pass attempt game.

Lastly but probably most importantly, the Colts are a one-dimensional offense depending entirely on Peyton Manning. Yes, they have Joseph Addai in the backfield but when they use him it’s usually for some bizarre Half-back back reminiscent of college offenses. With Leigh Bodden and a reformed Brandon Meriweather in the secondary passing all day just wont fly on this defense.

Meriweather has been playing well this season and watching him I see a bit of Troy Polamalu in his play style. Give him another year or two and he can be a premier safety in the NFL.

On offense the the patriots Outscore the Colts 28.1 to 27.1 points per game. The patriots also utilize more of their weapons with Maroney being an option he will most likely have a decent game tonight.

For our fantasy playing readers I’d say Welker and either of the elite QB’s playing in this game would be a likely start although I wouldnt bank on either defense as it will probably be a very offensive game.

This game will most likely set the tone for the rest of the season for both teams. I recommend you watch it it will probably be one of the top games of the season.

If it seems like we are talking about the Bills constantly, it’s because we are. Marshawn Lynch, Roscoe Parrish, Terrell Owens, and don’t forget about Jason Peters.

Tim Graham of ESPN.com says that the Bills aren’t close to either trading or signing tackle Jason Peters. He is an elite tackle, but the Bills still question his commitment and don’t want to pay him the ginormous salary that he is demanding.

And guess who’s name came up as a potential trade partner? The Eagles! No, seriously!

The Eagles’ name has been thrown in this trade rumor for months now. According to Graham, the discussions start with a first- and a third-round pick. Also, according to a league source the Bills and Eagles have not had any discussions regarding Peters.

If the Eagles were confident that Peters wouldn’t be a malcontent and that they could sign him, I’d pull the trigger on the first- and third-round picks. Although, I think he could be had for less considering he didn’t show up until two days before the opener last year. He seems determined to be a problem if he’s not paid.

Think about it, what are the odds that you could select a tackle at his level with either of those draft picks? They aren’t good. Even if you traded up, you’re going to select a highly rated prospect, but that’s all he is. Robert Gallery is a nice guard, but he was drafted #2 overall to be a tackle. He stunk at tackle. If you can use draft picks on a sure thing, why wouldn’t you?

The big question for me is how he would behave once you gave him the money. If he’s the offensive version of Albert Haynesworth, I wouldn’t do the deal. But I don’t know the answer to that question. Hopefully, someone a lot smarter than me in the Eagles front office has that information. And who knows, maybe that’s why they haven’t spoken to the Bills.

How do we know? Well, he suspended Marshawn Lynch for three games after Lynch was arrested in California on gun charges back in February. A search of the car that Lynch was riding in produced a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun in the trunk.

Awesome!

Photo Caption: A really big picture of Marshawn Lynch.

So yeah, Lynch has now had gun issues and running-over-people-and-fleeing-the-scene issues. If he screws up again, he’ll be looking at a much longer suspension.

The Dallas Morning News made a great decision in asking Cowboys TE Martellus Bennett to blog for them. He struggles a bit with the written word, but it shouldn’t matter because his keen insight on life will make up for it. So what does he blog about? Women farting. We’re serious. I wonder what the editor of the DMN thinks of this great content.

Man what do you do if your chic farts? It doesn’t seem as if women
should fart. I was walking in the grocery store in the chips and dips
aisle. This lady was walking in front of me pushing her cart she
stopped to pick up some pringles and let one rip. Sounded like a growl
and and a motor but smelt like a dead carcus. OMG! Now I knew it
wasn’t me LOL and we were the only two people on the aisle. She just
smiled and kept walking like nothing happened the smell followed her.
I swear I could see it like smoke out of a train just nasty.
My boy told me he was kissing a girl and she gave him a silent killer.
This is definitely a mood killer. Do you continue to kiss her? This is
a WWMBD moment (What Would Marty B Do). I would of definitely stop
kissing her LOL and asked her if she was ok. But this is what he did
he started sniffing the air and asked her if she smelled what he
smelled. She said naw I don’t smell anything, and kept it moving. He
asked her again you sure you don’t smell anything and she said yes
hunny I’m sure. Then she asked what it was he smelled he started
laughing and said oh nothing.
I guess women have to let go at times too but it just doesn’t seem
right, but if they do then it shouldn’t smell or make a sound. I mean
come on if you were on a date with Angelina Jolie a lunch date eating
spaghetti and pancakes or whatever it is people eat in Hollywood and
as she’s feeding you she farts. Do you let her slide because of her
beauty or call her out?

“Mr. Williams was at the front door area causing some sort of altercation,” police spokesman Victor Senties said. “A witness alerted one of the officers to it. The officer went over and asked Mr. Williams several times to leave. He refused. At one point, the officer attempted to escort him out of club. Mr. Williams pushed the officer and almost knocked him down. At that point, the other officer came over to try and assist. Again, Mr. Williams was very combative. One (officer) had to deploy a (taser) to get into custody.”

A league source tells PFT that despite doing and saying all the right things, Jason Campbell is “pissed” about the team’s attempt to land Jay Cutler.

We don’t think that Campbell has gotten an entirely fair shake so far in the pro’s due to the fact that he seems to have to learn a new offense every damn year. Then again, it wouldn’t be the first time the Redskins mishandled a late first-round QB. Patrick Ramsey got the awesome opportunity to start his career off in Steve Spurrier’s experimental college offense. A major flaw of that offense is that it’s not a priority to protect the QB. Yeah, that didn’t go so well.

So back to Campbell, we don’t know that’s he’s worse than Cutler. Cutler’s 4,526 passing yards and 25 TD’s are a bit skewed. Denver’s defense is an unmitigated disgrace. You tend to have to throw more when you are getting into shootouts. Cutler’s numbers look great, but not when held up to the light of an 8-8 record. And 18 INT’s to Campbell’s six is quite a big difference. Also, throwing to Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall is a lot nicer than Santana Moss and Randle El.

Should Campbell be pissed? Eh, maybe. He’s entering the final year of his rookie contract and if Washington loved him, there is no way that would happen. He should know that he’s not their favorite. That said, maybe he would be their favorite if they did him an ounce of a favor and didn’t give him new crap to learn every year.

This comes days after the team tried to smooth over the situation with Jason Campbell after they failed to land Jay Cutler.

But for Leftwich, it was made clear that he would only be a backup and would only play if Campbell got hurt or was ineffective in a start. Leftwich is a curious choice as a backup though. They run a hybrid West Coast offense and Leftwich struggled when that system was implemented in Jacksonville.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but we’re guessing the guaranteed money was in the $30 million range since he was on the market for so long.

“We are happy to add Kyle to our roster,” Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo sarcastically said while rolling his eyes and making a jerk-off motion with his right hand. “We feel that he will be a valuable addition to our team.”

Before the draft, Boller impressed then Raven head coach Brian Billick with his ability to launch a football a mile from his knees. It makes sense that this was a big selling point since that happens so often during the course of an NFL game.

Rams fans should pray for the health of Marc Bulger if they want to win more than three games this season.

Profootballtalk has been hearing rumors – and they emphasize rumors – that the Redskins are trying to move Jason Campbell. The QB was off to a very, very efficient start last year, but that faded just as the team did in 2008. He is signed through 2009 and we haven’t heard much in the way of the ‘Skins wanting to re-up him.

This dovetails with talk that the Redskins are trying to acquire Jay Cutler. If they were to do that, Campbell would certainly be expendable. But, with only four draft picks in this year’s draft, the Redskins don’t have a ton of ammunition. We saw one report that said the Broncos would want two firsts and a second for Cutler. There are also rumors that the Broncos don’t just want picks, they want a QB to replace him. That’s why the Cleveland Browns keep coming up as a third partner as they have two guys who either can or can’t play at the NFL level. Derek Anderson was good for one year, and Brady Quinn had a bunch of hype coming into the league. Nobody knows dick about either one of them.

So anyway, we digress. PFT emphasizes that these are just rumors and they are trying to nail down more proof, but it wouldn’t surprise us one bit if the Redskins were interested in acquiring Cutler and dumping Campbell. High-end franchise QB’s that teams desperately want to keep don’t enter the final year in their contract without an extension.

After being unable to get Cutler to call them back over the last 10 days, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen said today, “We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded.”

Here’s my opinion on both sides of this first-grade battle:

Josh McDaniels’ first claim to fame as a head coach is successfully losing his franchise quarterback before mini camps. He’s an idiot and off to the worst head-coaching start in the history of the NFL. Please remind me if I’m missing someone. And don’t give me the “Cutler hasn’t won anything yet” argument. He is clearly a top-ten quarterback in the NFL and there aren’t many of them out there. In fact, there are only ten of them.

Jay Cutler needs to grow up. He hasn’t won anything yet. See, you can use that argument here, just not in the previous paragraph. However, Cutler will grow up and he’ll be more successful in the NFL than Josh McDaniels.

According to the New York Times (which is always 100% correct in every instance), a plea deal for Plaxico Burress would indeed involve some jail time.

As you may or may not have heard, Burress shot himself in the leg in a nightclub in 2008 when the gun accidentally got loose in his sweatpants and went off. No, I’m serious. Trust me, you can Google it. All true.

Supposedly, according to…you know, the law, carrying a concealed weapon sans a permit in NYC comes with a mandatory 3.5-year jail sentence. But since Plaxico is famous, I guess we can bend the meaning of “mandatory.” It’s probably a good idea considering famous people are great.

So anyway, now there is talk of a possible plea deal between Plaxico and the people of N.Y. I’m not sure why prosecutors would need a plea deal since the evidence is so overwhelming. He had a gun. It was concealed. He didn’t have a permit. Pretty simple, right?

Actually that isn’t the case and it looks like the plea deal has nothing to do with Plax’s celebrity. According to the NY Times, there were 986 cases in NY last year involving the same charges as Burress. 90% resulted in convictions of less serious crimes, half of them misdemeanors or violations.

The reduced crimes were things like third-degree gun possession or attempted possession (whatever that means), which carry sentences of up to two years.

I find it tough to believe that Plax will get this busted down to a misdemeanor, but who knows? Based on what I read in the NY Times (I sound like Sarah Palin), it sounds like he’s going to have to spend at least some time behind bars, although the report didn’t have a clue how long.

And just because he goes to jail and gets out, don’t forget that Goodell hasn’t gotten his mitts on him yet.

…but not the Boldin you want. A league source tells PFT that the Eagles are scheduled to workout D.J. Boldin, Anquan’s younger brother.

The good news is that D.J. wasn’t even invited to the Combine, which means he’s probably awesome. All kidding aside, he is a very big wideout from Wake Forest who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds. That’s not blazing by any stretch, but it’s ok because he is so big.

Boldin did catch 77 balls last year at Wake, so it seems that he might be able to play a little bit. Florio of PFT notes that those 77 catches is more than North Carolina’s Hakeem Nicks, who most have rated very highly.

Florio also takes another step that I’m not prepared to take. He thinks if the Eagles used a later pick on D.J., that it could be laying the foundation to put the two on the same team. If Anquan was a free agent, I’d be on board with that theory. But the fact that a trade would have to take place and he really doesn’t control his destiny in that regard, I can’t follow him there. I think the Eagles have bigger worries than creating a neat little scenario where they have two sets of brothers on the team.

Former Dallas Cowboys LB Vinson Smith was arrested on a felony charge of breaking and entering, felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury and carrying a concealed weapon. Smith is now a bail bondsman and apparently he pistol whipped some dude he was trying to arrest.

The article tells the story pretty well, no need for us to retype it:

The charges are the result of a joint investigation by the N.C. Department of Insurance, which licenses bail bondsmen, and the Statesville Police Department.

Jamarr Scott, who failed to appear on a driving while impaired charge, told police that Smith hit him in the head several times when he and Hicks came into his home in the middle of the night to arrest him.

Smith’s attorney, Ken Darty, said the charges are without merit. He called the case against his client a witch hunt by the Department of Insurance, the Statesville Police Department and another bail bondsman whom he declined to name.

“This was orchestrated by the DOI, SPD and one of our local bondsman to run Vinson out of the bail business,” Darty said. “I really believe that.”

Scott disagrees. He contends Smith repeatedly hit him on the head with a pistol, causing injuries that required 15 staples in his head.

“I thought I was going to die in there,” he said from an interview room at the Iredell County Detention Center, where he is awaiting trial on a DWI charge.

The ordeal started early one morning earlier this month when he heard someone yelling “search warrant,” he said.

Scott said he was asleep and still waking up when Smith and Hicks came into his bedroom. “I was trying to put my pants on,” he said.

Scott said Smith got around Hicks and then hit him on the top of the head.

“When he first hit me, the gun came out of his hand,” he said.

Scott said he fell back onto the bed, and Smith grabbed him by the neck before retrieving the gun.
He said Smith then hit him several more times and told him that he lost money because Scott failed to appear on the DWI charge.

Scott said he begged Smith to call an ambulance, but he replied, “You’re not going to the hospital. You’re going to jail,” Scott said.

Scott said they eventually put him into Hicks’ car, and Smith got into another vehicle and left.
On the way to the jail, Scott said, he spotted a Statesville police officer. “I jumped out the car,” Scott said, explaining that he flagged down the SPD officer.

That officer then called an ambulance. Scott gave a statement about what happened, which prompted the investigation.

Scott said Hicks did not assault him. The other bondsman tried to calm Smith down, Scott said.

Don’t try to judge Vinson. He has a Super Bowl ring which makes him better than you.

Supposedly, the new uni’s will look similar to the throwbacks they’ve been wearing in recent years. You mean….they’ll look like the old Niners uniforms. The ones they wore when they were champions and not a running joke in the league?
