On Monday, the New York Rangers fired head coach Tom Renney after the team went in the tank as of late.
They got off to a hot 10-2-1 start, but have been awful lately and can’t seem to score. They have lost 10 out of their last 12 games.
GM Glen Sather has not [...]

According to multiple team sources, Suns head coach Terry Porter will be fired on Monday and assistant coach Alvin Gentry will replace him.
Porter, in his first year as head coach, saw the team hit a rough spot recently, going 6-10 for a 28-23 record at the All-Star Break.

Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards was told not to let the door hit him in the rear end today as he was fired as head coach of the Chiefs. Ok, so that first sentence should have read “former Chiefs head coach” was fired. Right? Well, technically….
Now, Chris Mortensen is reporting that the [...]

The Cowboys have announced that Brian Stewart, the team’s defensive coordinator, has been fired. Actually, they said he won’t be back next season, which is a nice way of saying “don’t let the door hit you in the ass.”
Stewart was stripped of his play-calling duties after the terrible loss to the Rams.

Apparently, Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner Malcolm Glazer doesn’t like ending a season with four straight losses and blowing a 9-3 record to miss the playoffs. I know this because head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Bruce Allen paid with their heads.
That’s right, the Bucs have fired Gruden and Allen and will not look to [...]

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Chiefs have added Scott Pioli. The 43-year old will fill the void left by long-time GM Carl Peterson.
Pioli was considered one of the masterminds of the Patriots dynasty.

Former 49ers FB Tom Rathman has been hired by Mike Singletary in San Francisco as his running backs coach, according to the National Football Post.
He spent the last two seasons coaching the running backs for the Oakland Raiders.

Just like they said they would, Boston College has fired head football coach Jeff Jagodzinski, whose name is roughly as fun to type as that of a certain Illinois governor.
B.C. warned Jagodzinski that if he interviewed for the head coaching vacancy of the N.Y. Jets that they would fire him. Apparently, they weren’t kidding.
“Jeff and [...]

SportsbyBrooks.com has a link to a NationalFootballPost.com story that reports the Broncos have fired head coach Mike Shanahan. I couldn’t post the link because the National Football Post’s website has been down since posting the news, presumably due to overwhelming traffic.
You can check out the SportsbyBrooks.com link here.
Stay tuned.
UPDATE: Ok, we [...]

While the 49ers have decided to retain the services of head coach Mike Singletary, they also decided that it was time for offensive coordinator Mike Martz to go. A league source has told Adam Schefter of NFLN that Martz is, as they say in Canada, oot.
OTR spoke with a source who used to work [...]

Sources close to OTR have told OTR that OTR will be no more. It’s just not the same anymore and it wouldn’t fair to our loyal readers to continue to just go through the motions. We did have a great run though. We broke the Asante Samuel signing. We were the [...]

The 76ers have fired head coach Mo Cheeks after a brutal 9-14 start to what was supposed to be a promising 08-09 season.
The team added pricey free agent Elton Brand to an upstart team this offseason. The problem? He is a half-court player who doesn’t really run. The rest of the [...]

After winning just one of their first four games, the Chicago Blackhawks have fired head coach Denis Savard. Joel Quenneville, previously of the Blues and Avalanche, will replace him.
OTR guesses that if Quenneville can’t win more than one of his first four games as head coach, that he’ll be fired too. [...]

We’ve all been waiting for this for quite some time now. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Al Davis has fired head coach Lane Kiffin and told him that he won’t be getting paid the remainder of the $3.5 million he’s owed.
It’s believed that Davis has been waiting to pile up enough evidence of [...]

Shocker. The Rams have given the ax to Scott Linehan and named Jim Haslett the interim coach. The Rams decided that they were sick of losing, apparently.
We’re sure this will get the Rams turned around despite the fact that they cannot block, tackle, pass, run, kick or cover.

After seven plus years of complete horribleness, Matt Millen is finally out as GM of the Detroit Lions.  This is being reported by Jay Glazer of FOXsports.com who is giving Adam Schefter a run for his money as best NFL information guy.
Since Millen’s takeover in 2001, the Lions have compiled an NFL-worst record of 31-84.
Millen was removed [...]

Sources have told ESPN’s Buster Olney that Omar Minaya is set to get a four-year extension. According to the sources, the deal is all but done, but there is no information on when the deal will be announced.

According to sources of Foxsports.com, Raiders’ coach Lane Kiffin will be fired on Monday.
We don’t know what else to say. The report is what it is. The Raiders blew an easy win against Buffalo on Sunday and they suck donkey balls to begin with. There have been rumors about Kiffin [...]

What happens when you blow a four-game Wild Card lead over the course of several days? The manager gets the boot. In this case, the Milwaukee Brewers have fired manager Ned Yost and replaced him with the much-cooler named Dale Sveum.

The Mets decided to finally fire manager Willie Randolph earlier this morning. Pitching coach Rick Peterson and the first-base coach Tom Nieto were also canned. There were no reports on whether or not the Mets were going to keep their second-base coach on the roster.

The Mariners, owners of the worst record in baseball, have fired hitting coach Jeff Pentland. Rotoworld.com comments on it way better than we could. Rotoworld.com says of the move:
“The Mariners have the game’s worst record despite a top-10 payroll, and it’s obviously Pentland’s fault. He’ll know better next time not to overpay for [...]

Multiple sources have told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith that Terry Porter will be named head coach of the Phoenix Suns. This means that Smith is better informed than Shaq, who was interviewed at the Belmont Stakes earlier today and said he had no idea what the plan was.

Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Tortorella, who won a championship for the ungrateful team in 2004, won’t be asked back for next season.
“This has been a very difficult decision because of everything that John Tortorella has meant to and done for this organization,” general manager Jay Feaster said in a statement. “Torts came to [...]

The Detroit Pistons announced today that they parted ways with coach Flip Saunders.

Larry Brown is now the official team wrecker head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats.
“How are you going to say no to Michael?” Brown said. “I’ve known him a long time. The things he stands for have made our game better. There’s no way I could say no to him. It was a pretty easy decision [...]

An odd thing happened over the past couple weeks. Famous people affiliated with sports (players, coaches, and analysts), started emailing me with questions and comments. It seems our fan base has spread across this great nation. I know all of you are pretty anxious to see exactly who emailed me, so let’s [...]

We’ve received a bunch of emails complaining that OTR wasn’t long enough and didn’t display enough stories. People were upset that they had to click the “Archives” button to see the stuff they missed. Well, your whiny complaints have been heard! We expanded our home page of the blog to include the [...]

I want to apologize for not getting Perry’s Mailbag up last Friday, especially to one of OTR’s dearest fans Lindsey. As most of you know, I was following the Asante Samuel story in Boston on Thursday night and continued my hot pursuit all day Friday until the early evening press conference around 5:00pm EST that [...]

Sean Salisbury will not be calling John Clayton the ‘crypt keeper’ as an ESPN employee anymore. In what has been long overdue, ESPN has dumped Salisbury like the turd he is. In my opinion, he has never said anything relevant or intelligent. All he liked to do was pick fights with little John Clayton and [...]
