The move saves the Rams roughly $6 million in cap space.

Williams had been asking for his outright release for awhile and had been complaining that he didn’t fit Wade Phillips’ scheme. Teams that have a hole on their roster for safeties that can’t cover a table with a blanket will most likely bring him in for a look see.

Ok, so maybe it’s not that big of a deal and everyone saw it coming. The Cowboys will save close to $2 million in cap space according to the team’s website.

Now that Johnson is gone and Brooks Bollinger is due to become a free agent, the Cowboys really need a backup QB.

Coles was set to earn $6 million this year and wanted a long-term deal. But they couldn’t come to an agreement and now he’s on the street.

“We didn’t leave on bad terms,” Coles said. “It’s not out of the question that I could come back.”

“I look at it as a long-term thing,” he said. “It’s something my agent (Roosevelt Barnes) and I (discussed) for a long time. I trust my agent. He’s been in my corner for a long time. He gave me his opinion. He said he truly believed we could get a long-term deal on the open market and I took his word for it.

“I want to go somewhere where I can finish my career. I don’t want to bounce from team to team. I hope to play another three or four years.”

Cutting Green saves the team $1.3 million in cap space. $30-million bust Drew Bennett has been a total waste of money and cutting him now only saves the team $50,000. Thanks, Drew.

Jeremy Bridges was set to make more than a million dollars this year, and I guess he wasn’t worth it. D.J. Hackett was never really healthy for the Panthers and didn’t do much for them. Goings filled in exceptionally well at times when the entire backfield would get hurt.

Brooks has been the face of the franchise for more than 10 years, so they must really feel like he can’t run anymore. Hilliard is close to toast and apparently Joey Galloway is too. This has to be some sort of good news for Michael Clayton. Unless they cut him too. In that case it wouldn’t be good for him.

Warrick Dunn is getting near the end too, but probably all of these guys will find a home somewhere.

Bly is a corner who can make some plays, but gets burned wayyyy too much to be considered an upper echelon player. He has played 11 seasons in the NFL and will surely catch on with another team.

McAllister turned 30 in December and is due $5.3 million this season. He had four years remaining on his contract but suffered major knee injuries in two of the last three years.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones even assigned him his own security guards to follow him around to make sure he didn’t get in any trouble. Didn’t happen. He still got into a fight with a security guard in a hotel bathroom and was suspended four games for the incident. Surely, Jones doesn’t believe he can keep his nose clean for an entire offseason and doesn’t want to deal with the headaches.

As it is now, Jones has enough headaches on the roster.

A team source told Ed Werder that Pacman was released after the team learned that Pacman was involved in a second shooting in 2007. In an upcoming “Outside the Lines” segment, three Atlanta men allege that Jones arranged for someone to shoot at them just three months after he was suspended for a year by the NFL.

“He was surprised, and I think he was obviously somewhat hurt,” said Worrick Robinson, Jones’ agent. “At the same time, he understands the business behind what is happening here.”

“Outside the Lines” was told by an informant that Jones ordered the shooting following a dispute with one of the men. Authorities say the case is open, but they are not actively investigating the matter. Whatever that means.

It’s tough to think at this point that Jones won’t get a lifetime ban from the NFL.

We’d rather just shut it down than to run a boring, poorly updated blog, which is what OTR is starting to become.

We can’t thank all of our readers enough. You guys have all been great and we had a ton of fun playing with everyone. Maybe we’ll do it again some day. We could have just let the blog die slowly and not update it, but that’s not fair to anyone. We thought we would give OTR a proper burial by at least letting everyone know that we are calling it quits.

The Raiders paid Hall $8 million and gave up second and fifth-round draft picks. Well done, Raiders.

They spent a second-round pick on Hall and will have paid him $8 million for eight games. At least they realize they screwed up.

Now, a league source has told PFT that a big purge could be coming for the Raiders before next year. The purge could include Javon Walker and Tommy Kelly. Gee…you think? Maybe it was a dumb-assed idea to even give those guys big deals?

This is all good news for Raiders fans as it shows that the team is realizing how stupid it is.

Don’t expect Hall to clear waivers. According to PFT, interested teams could be the Patriots, Texans, Giants, Redskins, Rams, and Saints.

It is not known at this time if the move had anything to do with his Sarah Palin shrine in his locker.

Actually, it’s so they can activate WR Chris Henry. The Bengals just told Kenny Watson that it was more important to have Henry on the team than him. Ouch.
